The electron beam can scan any arbitrary area diced from a 2 or 3 inch diameter GaAs growth substrate. The current eVCSEL lasers slated for professional projection display applications are 2 cm x 1 cm. 0.9 cm x 0.5 cm dimensions will be used for laser based consumer television. The emitted light has a polarization ratio of 1000:1 with a 6 degree half angle for highly efficient optical coupling. The eVCSEL has a distinct advantage in that device production costs are extremely low given the simplicity of a cathode ray tube as well as a worldwide manufacturing infrastructure of a well known and proven technology.
Principia’s technology platform can engineered to produce wavelengths from UVA through the visible utilizing II-VI based semiconductors. The company has also demonstrated blue and green lasers at 460nm and 530nm respectively, with output of 6 watts in each color and over 10 watts at 635nm.
